Overview

The Manager, Design and Construction EX leads the delivery of project design, construction and renovation projects across clinics, hospitals, and administrative facilities. The role leads cross-functional teams to manage workload, vendor partnerships and ensure project excellence in cost, schedule, quality, and compliance. The role provides strategic design input, supports infrastructure planning, and develops policies for governance and transparency. The role focuses on patient-centered, efficient design, mentors internal staff and engages stakeholders to align projects with broader operational and growth objectives.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Delivery

  • Lead marketwide construction delivery across clinics, hospitals, and support facilities—ensuring cost, schedule, and quality targets for multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Develop and manage a capital plan for short and long term for construction and infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with regional growth and operational priorities.
  • Drive master site planning, space utilization strategies, and green-building initiatives to support future facility needs and sustainability goals.
  • Provide strategic design direction that optimizes patient safety, staff efficiency, and familycentered care environments.
  • Oversee procurement and bidding—issuing RFPs, reviewing bids, negotiating AIA contracts, and sourcing architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Direct expense budgeting in collaboration with Facilities and Finance leadership to ensure resource optimization and long-range forecasting.

Oversight, Compliance & Quality

  • Supervise execution of building construction and remodeling projects, ensuring compliance with plans, codes, OSHA, FGI, and healthcare regulations.
  • Oversee vendor, consultant, and contractor performance, ensuring deliverables meet quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
  • Lead contract negotiation and administration, including AIA agreements and risk mitigation for high-value vendors and services.
  • Maintain regulatory knowledge and implement facility standards, aligning with codes, patientsafety protocols, and emerging healthcare infrastructure requirements.

 

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage and mentor a team of project engineers and coordinators, assigning workload equitably and driving performance and career development.
  • Serve as liaison with clinical and facilities endusers, translating user needs into project scope and coordinating major relocations or transitions.
  • Provide regular executive-level reporting on portfolio status, risk exposure, budget variances, and key metrics to leadership teams.
  • Foster crossfunctional collaboration among operations, finance, legal, IT, and facilities leadership to ensure unified project delivery

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Construction Management or related discipline

 

Work Experience

5 years

Required

At least five years of management experience in healthcare construction.

 

10+ years

Required

At least 10 years in construction project management.

 

 

Licenses and Certifications

Driver's License Required

PMP Preferred
