Responsibilities

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic endocrinology team at the Methodist Hospital Specialty Clinic. This is an excellent opportunity for nurses who are passionate about patient-centered care and interested in developing their skills in the endocrinology specialty. Whether you bring prior experience in endocrinology or are looking to expand your clinical knowledge in this field, we welcome your application.

In this role, you will help triage and assess patient needs, coordinate care, and support patients and families as they manage complex endocrine conditions. You’ll work closely with experienced endocrinologists and healthcare professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Patient Assessment & Triage
• Evaluate incoming patient phone calls to determine the urgency of symptoms and appropriate next steps.
• Provide telephone triage for endocrine-related concerns such as blood glucose fluctuations, thyroid symptoms, medication side effects, and hormonal imbalances.
• Guide patients to the appropriate level of care or follow-up based on clinical presentation.

Care Coordination
• Assist in coordinating care for patients with acute and chronic endocrine conditions (e.g., diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal and pituitary conditions).
• Collaborate with endocrinologists and the care team to ensure timely adjustments to treatment plans, including medications and lab monitoring.
• Facilitate referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up appointments.

Patient & Family Education
• Educate patients and caregivers on endocrine conditions, treatment plans, medication management (including insulin and other injectable therapies), and lifestyle modifications.
• Provide guidance on blood glucose monitoring, use of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), and insulin pumps as applicable.
• Offer ongoing support and resources tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

Clinical Documentation & Follow-Up
• Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Monitor lab results and communicate findings to patients and providers.
• Track patient progress and coordinate follow-up care to ensure continuity and optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa
  • Experience: All levels of RN experience will be considered. Prior experience in endocrinology or specialty care is a plus, but not required.
  • Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
