The Radiology Tech Specialist in conjunction with other team members provides direct specialized care to patients in the Cardiac Cath Lab. This position operates and maintains specialized cardiac catheterization equipment for use in diagnosing and treating heart disease in the Cath Lab. This position assists vascular surgeons and cardiologists in procedures by scrubbing, monitoring, and circulation duties. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, improved patient care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

• Provides direct patient care.
• Performs various duties related to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including scrubbing, monitoring and assists during procedure under the supervision of the cardiologist/vascular surgeon and/or Registered Nurse (RN) who is immediately available in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
• Communicates effectively with other team members including physicians, nurses, cardiovascular technicians, clinical partners, and unit secretaries. Also communicates effectively with patients and families.
• Demonstrates self-development by keeping abreast of various trends in cardiovascular procedures and is proficient with new techniques.
• Takes on-call as scheduled. Must be able to arrive within 30 minutes of call-in when on a call shift.
EDUCATION:
• Graduate of an approved Radiology Technologist program.
EXPERIENCE:
• One year of Radiology “special procedures” or cardiac cath experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
• Current Iowa License to practice as a Radiology Technologist.
• Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
