This position operates on a rotating 4‑week schedule with a mix of 6:30 AM–6:30 PM day shifts and 6:30 PM–6:30 AM night shifts. Current rotation includes combinations of Mon–Fri with no weekend coverage; weekend shifts may be added in the future as staffing transitions

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and supervises nursing and patient care activities to ensure high-quality care and patient safety

  • Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge, including medication administration and treatment within scope of licensure

  • Maintains professional communication and relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Coordinates hospital operations by planning, organizing, and directing activities across all departments

  • Responds to emergency situations, reallocating staff and resources to meet patient care needs

  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and addresses issues such as understaffing, absenteeism, and workflow challenges

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and performance support to staff across departments

  • Handles conflict resolution and problem-solving, escalating issues when necessary

  • Acts as the hospital leader during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, modeling professionalism and accountability

  • Maintains compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, certifications, and organizational standards (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.)

Qualifications

Education:

  • Diploma from an RN program.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Must possess and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification 
  • Must possess and maintain current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
