Student Nurse Extern

Shift: 32 Hours per Week; Same as assigned preceptor (days, evenings, nights)
The Student Nurse Extern, under the direct supervision of the Register Nurse (RN), is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care, in coordination with the healthcare team. The primary role of the Student Nurse Extern is the execution of the nursing process in providing required care and evaluation of care given. Responsibilities include assessment, nursing diagnosis related to focus problem areas, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. Performance of these responsibilities requires specialized knowledge and core critical thinking skills as well as excellent communication skills.

Provides high-quality, patient-centered care using the nursing process in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Collaborates with the registered nurse and interdisciplinary care team to develop and implement individualized plans of care.
Assesses patient and family needs, delivers appropriate education, and facilitates referrals to support continuity of care.
Utilizes critical thinking and sound clinical judgment to monitor patient conditions and respond promptly to changes in status.
Documents patient care accurately and timely to ensure a complete and legal medical record.
Applies a holistic approach to care, considering physical, emotional, social, spiritual, educational, and safety needs across all age groups.
Communicates effectively with patients, families, and care team members to support safe and coordinated care.
Selects and delivers patient education using age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and learner-centered strategies.
Promotes a safe environment by following patient and workplace safety practices, preventing errors and infections, and reporting concerns promptly.
Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program, ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or higher.
Must have completed all fundamental nursing courses and be entering final phase of nursing program.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Preferred:
Successful completion of 3rd year accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program
