Emergency Department Technician- Evening Shift

FTE: 0.6 FTE (Part-time, 24 hours per week)
Shift: 4:00pm - 12:30am every other Fri/Sat/Sun and Holiday; hours during the week may vary

The Emergency Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of basic, non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and physicians. Plays an important role in patient care by assisting with vital signs, transport, patient hygiene, equipment setup, and environmental cleanliness to ensure a safe and efficient care environment. Reports and records observations and contribute to the efficient functionality of the department.

• Completes care for adult and geriatric patients as assigned by the registered nurse.
• Functions in day-to-day and emergency situations in accordance with nursing standards and as assigned by the nurse.
• Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
• Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, and other related activities.
• Obtains electrocardiograms per physician orders.
• Assists RN to establish EKG telemetry, noninvasive blood pressure and oximetry, and temperature readings.
• Performs clerical duties as assigned.
• Documents ADL’s within the online medical record.
• Performs Glucose Point of Care.

Education:         

• Seventy-five (75) Hour Nursing Assistant Course or nursing students to have completed Nursing Foundations preferred but not required.

Skills/Abilities:   

• Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change. 
• Ability to organize work. 
• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. 
• BCLS completion required. 
• Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients.
• Member of the Support stroke team requiring 2 hours of annual stroke education.
