We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic General Surgery and Gastroenterology team at the Methodist Hospital Specialty Clinic. This is a great opportunity for nurses who are passionate about patient-centered care and interested in developing their skills in surgical and gastrointestinal specialties. Whether you bring prior experience in general surgery, gastroenterology, or are looking to expand your clinical knowledge in this field, we welcome your application.
In this role, you will help triage and assess patient needs, coordinate care, and support patients and families as they navigate complex surgical and gastrointestinal conditions. You’ll work closely with surgeons, gastroenterologists, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.
• Evaluate incoming patient phone calls to determine the urgency of symptoms related to surgical or gastrointestinal concerns (e.g., abdominal pain, post-operative issues, nausea/vomiting, GI bleeding).
• Provide telephone triage and guide patients to the appropriate level of care, clinic visit, or follow-up.
• Assist in coordinating urgent and emergent care for patients with acute surgical or gastrointestinal conditions.
• Support pre-operative and post-operative care coordination, including testing, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
• Communicate efficiently with surgeons, gastroenterologists, and clinical team members to ensure timely and effective care.
• Educate patients and caregivers on surgical procedures, gastrointestinal conditions, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
• Provide guidance on medication management, dietary recommendations, wound care, and symptom monitoring.
• Offer ongoing support and resources tailored to each patient’s needs.
• Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans using the electronic health record (EHR).
• Track patient outcomes, review test results, and coordinate follow-up care to ensure continuity and optimal recovery.
