As a professional, the Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory testing following the established policies and procedures within the laboratory department and UnityPoint Health to aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. They are responsible for solving practical and analytical problems, maintaining, and troubleshooting highly complex instrumentation, and must adhere to all quality and regulatory guidelines to ensure the highest quality patient care.

Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. Obtains, labels, and delivers specimens in accordance with standards. Supports, participates in and complies with LEAN work and productivity standards. Prioritizes, performs, judges, and reports routine and esoteric procedures within established time guidelines. Maintains equipment, inventory, and work area, and documents appropriately. Performs, evaluates, and documents advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving activities; liaisons with clients and nursing personnel, and interprets data for appropriate health professionals.
Two year Associates Degree in Lab Science is required. Education must be obtained which is sufficient to allow certification under one of the MLT/MT (ASCP) Board of Registry examination routes. Must be eligible to take an appropriate registry examination (ASCP, NCA, or equivalent) within one year of employment. Our positions offer NO CALL and highly complex testing. #DSM123
