Overview

Under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager and Supervisor, this position requires knowledge of all the electro-mechanical systems of the hospital and its outbuildings.  It also requires an expert knowledge in the areas of hardware application, networking, troubleshooting, programming, and commissioning the hospitals building automation systems such as, HVAC control software, energy management, card access and security systems (video & audible).  Incumbent will work from construction submittals and work from blueprints for installation, troubleshooting and repair of these systems. 

 

Knowledge of safety equipment to maintain these systems as well as safety equipment used in health care facilities.  The incumbent will work from blueprints and use and maintain hand and power tools.  The position requires that the incumbent follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for construction projects, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

Commissioning and Installation of BAS equipment/software 

  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned BAS and mechanical equipment.
  • Understands, observes, and complies with all safety precautions and procedures of the department and hospital.
  • Installs, expands, troubleshoots, and maintains building automations systems, ensures data-based generation of critical equipment records are up to date and recorded.
  • Work closely with Biomedical and IT departments on BAS integration and to ensure network security is met and maintained.

Operating and Maintaining BAS and Mechanical Equipment

  • Ensures that good relationships and communications are maintained with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • All urgent requests are handled in a timely manner.
  • Repairs are made correctly and completely.
  • Keep shop and mechanical rooms clean and free of unnecessary items.
  • Utilize logs and maintain all documents required in accordance with SOP’s or required AHJ’s.
  • Ensures that good relationships and communications are maintained with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • All urgent requests are handled in a timely and professional manner.
  • Installs, expands, troubleshoots, and maintains building automations systems, ensures data-based generation of critical equipment records are up to date and recorded.
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots hospital security systems.
  • Has a strong knowledge of the assigned BAS system of the incumbent and provides training to others on the BAS system assigned to them.
  • The POM Manager or Supervisor is to be informed on all projects so that appropriate communications can be maintained with other departments.
  • Additional training and/or self-development is required to maintain and update skills necessary to operate and repair current and new equipment.
  • Suggestions for improvement of equipment or management policies are to be made to the POM Manager or Supervisor.
  • Must be capable of self-evaluation to improve productivity.
  • Understands, observes, and complies with all safety precautions and procedures of the department and hospital.
  • Performs assigned duties during fire, internal, and external disasters, codes, and drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the POM Manager or Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 2 years of industrial or commercial maintenance type setting
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position
