Overview

Allen College is seeking candidates for a full-time clinical coordinator faculty position in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. The faculty member shall hold an academic faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor at Allen College consistent with his/her education, experience and qualifications of the rank. The Clinical Coordinator serves as a resource and liaison for the department faculty and clinical agencies in coordinating clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the Program Director.

 

Faculty are members of the Allen College Faculty Organization Committee at large and are appointed to other faculty committees. Faculty are involved in the development and evaluation of the program and of the students. Faculty are actively involved in teaching, guidance and academic advising of students and report to the School’s Dean.

 

In compliance with the Clery Act, Allen College publishes an Annual Security report containing three previous years of crime statistics, institutional policies concerning campus safety, and a fire safety report. The report is available at ASR Report 2025. A paper copy is available upon request.

Responsibilities

Faculty Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates with guidance in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of individual courses and overall curriculum within the college.
  • Participates in faculty development, governance and college decision making.
  • Participates in faculty organization committees.
  • Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships between college and clinical agencies.
  • Teaches:
    • Classroom and clinical preparation, instruction, supervision and evaluation.
    • Coordination and supervision of students’ clinical experiences consistent with established standards of care and course/program objectives.
    • Other activities directly related to the academic program.
  • Serves as academic advisor for students.
  • Participates in professional activity and community service.
  • Participates in scholarly activities (may include the following):
  • Beginning study and research to develop knowledge, proficiency in one’s field of professional specialization.
  • Write, edit, and review texts and articles.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional associations.
  • Participates in the coordination, advisement and supervision of student organization and other activities of the College not related to academics.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of Allen College and adheres to College policies, procedures and guidelines.

Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Coordinates clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Serves as liaison between the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and clinical agencies/clinical instructors to ensure the adequacy and quality of clinical education of students.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining clinical affiliation agreements.
  • In cooperation with the Program Director, assists in the evaluation of clinical education effectiveness and ensures that the clinical agencies/clinical instructors are regularly evaluated.
  • Ensures student compliance with clinical requirements.
  • Facilitates communication regarding clinical placements.
  • Maintains a schedule of regular visits to the clinical affiliate/clinical education centers.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in program discipline or related field with major study in area of teaching responsibility. A master’s degree in program discipline or related field with a major study in area of teaching responsibility from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and experience in teaching preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the following specialties required : Abdomen and OB/GYN and RVT.
  • Current licensure or permit to practice, as required by regulatory and/or accrediting agencies.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in program discipline or 2 years clinical experience in area of teaching. Preference may be given to an applicant who has a minimum of one year of experience as an instructor in a JRC-DMS accredited program and 2 years clinical experience in professional discipline.

Other:

  • Current clinical skills and demonstrated competency in practice.
  • Evidence of ability in teaching as indicated by others in the education field.
  • Demonstrated ability to do scholarly work appropriate to the individual's field.
  • Evidence of involvement in professional activity and community service.
