Responsibilities

Performs phlebotomy and routine laboratory procedures. Supports clinical operations through accurate specimen collection, safe handling, and timely communication of results.

  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing using proper patient identification, labeling, and collection standards.
  • Assist with complex phlebotomy situations and maintain professional patient and staff interactions.
  • Obtain basic vital signs after completing required competency (no immunizations, medication dispensing, or procedure assistance).
  • Accurately document clinical and laboratory information in the electronic health record.
  • Conduct quality control, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and proficiency testing as required.
  • Apply knowledge of specialty procedures and test values to determine appropriate next steps within scope.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required in complex CLIA labs).
  • If CMA - Valid and current certification in the state of Iowa for Medical Assisting
    • Accredited program plus certification through: (AAMA, NCCT, AMT, NHA, NCMA, NAHP, AAH, ARMA or NHCA)
  • Phlebotomy experience or phlebotomy certification 
  • Direct patient care or certification for MA, LPN, RN a plus!
