Overview

The AbbeHealth Warm Line is seeking a Peer Support Specialist. If you are in recovery from serious mental illness and want to use that lived experience to help others, a Warm Line Peer Support Specialist position may be for you. This part-time position includes the option for remote work from home for qualified candidates, must live within Eastern Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • Is aware of department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or administrative staff.
  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the organization’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
  • Answering calls from adults who are struggling with mental health problems from across the state of Iowa using a laptop, headset, and software for answering and documenting calls
  • Validating concerns and reflecting hope and resiliency to callers
  • Referring callers to resources accessible from the caller’s home area
  • Notifying supervisors of safety concerns
  • Sharing your recovery story to provide hope and aid in callers’ recovery journeys
  • Demonstrates a positive cooperative attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to change to meet department goals.
  • Performs additional duties as may be assigned to ensure complete service to all customers.

Qualifications

Education

Must be at least 18 years old.

Qualifications/Experience

Job qualifications include personal, lived experience in recovery from serious mental illness and one year of providing mental health services. Successful completion of the 40-hour Peer Support course recognized by the Iowa Board of Certification or ability to complete within 6 months of hire. Demonstration of good judgement and ethical decision making, strong verbal and written communication, human services related documentation, use of technology such as computer/email/smart phone/common software, collaborative approach with other staff and agencies, and calm demeanor in crisis situations. Belief that people are resilient and that recovery is achievable is required.
