As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the nurse contributes professional knowledge and clinical expertise in the delivery and management of care for patients and their families. Nurses maintain a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code of Ethics, the UnityPoint Health Philosophy of Nursing, and the Professional Nurse Practice Model, working collaboratively with all caregivers

The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) specializes in the recovery of patients of all ages following anesthesia for surgical procedures, as well as interventions performed in Endoscopy and the Cath Lab. Our nurses are certified in BLS, ACLS, and PALS, and are skilled in airway management, hemodynamic stabilization, and acute pain management. They ensure patients are safely monitored and stabilized before transitioning to the next phase of care—whether returning to the ambulatory unit or being admitted for continued treatment.

The PACU provides 24/7 coverage, supported by a dedicated on-call team with two RNs available to respond to after-hours needs.
