As an Air Transport Paramedic, you’ll deliver advanced, compassionate care in hospital, out‑of‑hospital, aircraft, and ground ambulance settings. Working side‑by‑side with physicians, nurses, and fellow caregivers, you’ll play a critical role in assessing, treating, and supporting patients and families during life‑changing moments.

  • Provide high‑level patient care under the Scope of Practice for Iowa Paramedics and Critical Care Paramedics.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care. 
  • Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team. 
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care. 
  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care. 
  • Utilizes holistic approach (considering diversity, biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area. 
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care. 
  • Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients. 
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Paramedic Program

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Paramedic in Iowa. 
  • Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) required upon hire 
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire
  • Approved Trauma Course (required upon hire) 
  • FP-C (required within 2 years of hire) 
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years full-time with high volume ALS/911 service

Other: 

  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.  

  •  

    Work may require travel to other UPH facilities our bases of operationMay drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle. 

  •  

    Ability to perform functions of the job in all conditions of the environment including weather extremes, noise, vibration and aviation (fumes, flicker, altitude, turbulence).
