Senior Foundation Accountant — Full-Time with Benefits


The Senior Foundation Accountant serves as a trusted financial partner, supporting assigned departments through accurate, timely, and insightful reporting. This role leads month-end processes, drives improvements in financial workflows, and provides expert analysis to Corporate and affiliate finance teams.

 

Key responsibilities include preparing and explaining financial reports, supporting annual budget development, and creating tools to streamline processes. The role also provides structure and guidance to accountants and interns across key functions such as tax returns, budgeting, endowment calculations, granting, pledges, and pooled cash. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys analytical work, process improvement, and collaborating across teams to elevate financial operations.

Responsibilities

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze monthly financial statements, prepare clear variance explanations, and follow up with department leaders as needed.

  • Lead month-end reporting and drive improvements in accounting processes and financial workflows.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Corporate and affiliate finance teams, providing and interpreting financial data and performance benchmarks.

  • Prepare, review, and present financial reports, including fund activity and key performance indicators.

  • Review and approve Staff Accountant work (journal entries, reconciliations, etc.), and complete assigned entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Prepare and submit required external reports and surveys on deadline.

Operational & Strategic Support

  • Partner with assigned departments to build strong relationships and ensure effective communication and support.

  • Assist departments and affiliates with budget preparation and ongoing performance monitoring.

  • Research and document accounting treatment for major transactions, such as acquisitions or divestitures.

  • Support internal and external financial audits and address follow-up items.

  • Provide high-level consultation, research, and project support to financial leadership.

Process Improvement & Leadership

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and overall impact.

  • Create and maintain tools, templates, and documentation to enhance financial reporting and operations.

  • Train, mentor, and support Staff Accountants and interns; maintain and improve process instructions.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding promptly to questions, inquiries, and concerns.

  • Present financial reports, audit findings, budgets, and educational updates to executives and Foundation boards.

Donor Database & Reporting Integration

  • Oversee financial reporting integration with the donor database, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for direct mail and mailing house coordination, including list preparation, coding, and updates.

  • Develop tools and KPIs in partnership with database coordinators to support data integrity and insights.

  • Run queries, lists, and reports; update donor demographic information; and provide backup support for gift receipting.

  • Assist with data entry and documentation to support high-quality donor and financial reporting processes.

General Responsibilities

  • Build rapport across all levels of the organization.

  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned to support smooth and effective departmental operations.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Experience:
Five (5) year’s accounting experience. Experience in health care related finance.

 

License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.  Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Preferred
