Overview

Performs a variety of clinical duties; responsible for assisting the physician with direct and indirect patient care for children and adolescents 0-22 years of age in a pediatric clinic. Provides the patient, families, and caregivers the education needed to provide safe/competent care the diabetes patients.

Responsibilities

  • Complete glucose reviews, assist in insulin and medication management, assess patterns.  
  • Collaborate with providers in coordination of care.  
  • Schedule patients manage phone calls and lead patient interviewing.  
  • Consult with individuals, families, or colleagues from associated disciplines or within nursing. 
  • Serve as a resource in educating the patients, family and community regarding information relevant to health and wellness and illness prevention. 
  • Provide education and training to patients and families regarding technology as it pertains to managing diabetes.  
  • Responsible for the development and ongoing coordination of care of the patient in the specific specialty. 
  • Proficient with continuous glucose monitors, pumps, software, phone apps, and new technology as it becomes available.  

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing or dietitian program.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Certificate in Diabetes Education (must be obtained within 2 years of hire). 
  • Current Iowa license to practice as a Registered nurse or a Registered/Licensed Dietitian. 
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire. 

Experience:

  • Requires clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to plan and evaluate patient care 

Other: 

  • Level 3 Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
