The Pulmonology Specialty RN provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for individuals with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions in an outpatient clinic setting. Working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and other members of the care team, the RN supports diagnostic testing, treatment coordination, patient education, and disease management to optimize respiratory health and patient outcomes.
Provide direct nursing care to patients with respiratory disorders, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, sleep apnea, and other pulmonary conditions.
Perform patient assessments, review medical histories, and monitor ongoing clinical status.
Assist with pulmonary function testing, oximetry, spirometry, and other diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Administer prescribed medications, immunizations, and oxygen therapy as ordered.
Educate patients and families on disease processes, medication management, inhaler techniques, and lifestyle modifications to improve respiratory health.
Collaborate with pulmonologists and advanced practice providers to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Coordinate referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up appointments.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.
Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing (ADN or BSN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pulmonology, respiratory therapy, internal medicine, or critical care
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Experience with electronic health records (e.g., Epic)
Strong patient education and communication skills
