Our pulmonology clinic in Waukee, IA is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our team. The CMA will work closely with physicians and clinical staff to provide high-quality care to patients with respiratory and sleep-related conditions. The ideal candidate demonstrates compassion, attention to detail, and strong communication skills, thriving in a collaborative and patient-centered environment.
Greet and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
Record and update patient medical histories, vital signs, oxygen saturation, and spirometry results.
Assist providers with pulmonary function tests, nebulizer treatments, and other respiratory procedures.
Administer medications and immunizations as directed.
Perform specimen collection, including sputum or throat swabs, and prepare samples for laboratory processing.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Educate patients on medication use, oxygen therapy, and home monitoring as directed by the provider.
Ensure exam rooms, equipment, and supplies are cleaned, stocked, and maintained according to infection control standards.
Coordinate patient flow, schedule follow-ups, and manage referrals to other specialists or diagnostic facilities.
Support front-office operations as needed, including patient check-in/out and insurance verification
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Current certification required; one of the following is accepted:
CCMA-NHA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association)
CMA-AAMA – Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assistants)
CMA-NCCT – Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing)
CMA-NCMA – Certified Medical Assistant (National Certified Medical Assistant)
NRCMA-NAHP – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (National Association of Health Professionals)
RMA-AMT – Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists)
RMA-AAH – Registered Medical Assistant (American Allied Health)
RMA-ARMA – Registered Medical Assistant (American Registry of Medical Assistants)
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Prior experience in pulmonology, internal medicine, or a specialty clinic preferred.
