Overview

SIGN ON BONUS:  $10,000 (eligible external new hires)

SHIFT:  6a-6p, Fri/Sat/Sun, time and a half after 3 pm Friday

 

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting as directed by the medical staff and following the policies and procedures of UPH-GRMC.  Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with minimal supervision.  Able to triage safely, rapidly, and accurately every patient that enters the emergency care system.  Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.  Communicates with Emergency Department physicians about changes in patient’s status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies.  Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and able to function under stressful and emergent situations by utilizing critical thinking skills. 
  • Demonstrates time management skills by delivering care and completing assignments in a timely manner and exercises safe judgment in decision making.  
  • Documentation is complete and timely. 
  • Reports, in a timely manner, pertinent patient observations, significant incidents, or any changes in patient’s condition to appropriate person. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer processes as related to position held. 
  • Maintains direct responsibility for nursing care of assigned patients within the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice. 
  • Delegates tasks appropriately to others based on their scope of practice or level of competency. 
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and develop an individualized care and education plan to meet the clinical and psychosocial needs of the patient. 
  • Receives telephone, verbal and written physician orders, utilizes read back process, and processes orders accurately and timely. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration, follows medication administration rights and processes, and appropriately documents all administered medications. 
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of and is able to perform the technical skills of the assigned department for the positions held. 
  • Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team provide continuity of care, encompassing a holistic approach to services provided. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION: 

 - Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. 

EXPERIENCE:

 - One year in emergency or critical care preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

 - Current Iowa Registered Nurse Licensure. A

 - CLS Certification current or completion within the first six months of employment.  

 - TNCC and PALS current or completion within first year of employment.  

 - NRP recommended.
