Assists in managing the day to day operations of the unit utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. Supervises, supports and develops unit staff. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area). Collaborates with nursing leadership and education professionals to coordinate, influence, and assist with the implementation of nursing care and related nursing activities at the nursing unit level in clinical staffing. Assesses, develops and implements orientation and education programs for department staff to positively impact the quality of patient care. Uses creative and critical thinking skills in all aspects of the position.

· Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital’s budgetary guidelines.
· Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility.
· Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary team work.
· Remains competent and available to participate in patient care pertinent to clinical specialty.
· Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of the department as needed.
· Assists in developing annual budget and takes appropriate action when appropriate to maintain control of department financial resources.
· Implements evidence based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modifications for attainment of goals.
· Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates staff with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.
· Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary to problem solve.
· Participates in interdepartmental projects for personal and professional development.
· Oversees the verification of agency contracts, maintenance of personnel records, and verification and approval of agency billing and reimbursement
· Maintains One Staff scheduling system, database administrator, education to users, and utilizes the system for staffing.
· Collects and maintains information on a day to day basis at bed huddle and assists in planning for high census/high acuity days.
Education:
Graduate of accredited nursing program Bachelor’s Degree required or in progress.
Experience:
Two years of experience as a registered nurse.
Experience in specialty area preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current Iowa license as a registered nurse.
Current BCLS (CPR)
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.
