Under limited supervision of the Manager Nurse and medical direction from the physician, provides professional patient care by assisting the physician with the assessment, examination and treatment of patients following established standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in the skills (critical thinking, interpersonal, and technical) necessary to carry out assigned duties.
  • Recognizes and responds to patients' physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs that need to be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served appropriately.
  • Assesses comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation, completes needed assessments and collaborates with physicians & providers
  • Encourages feedback from the patient, families/significant others, peers, and other disciplines regarding perception of care provided to patients and utilizes feedback to improve patient care practices.
  • Acts as resource person in the subspecialty of medical oncology
  • Answers incoming telephone calls and answers patient questions.
  • Confirms scheduled appointments.
  • Projects positive, flexible attitude and communications in order to meet patient's needs.
  • Maintains positive communications with fellow staff, radiation oncologists, referring medical oncology providers and nurses.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses required

 

Experience:

Clinical experience preferred

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa for Registered Nurse required

Must possess and maintain current BLS certification.
