Shift: Must be able to work staff shifts 7A-7P/P-7A, Weekdays and Weekends

 

Responsible for supervising the daily activities of the unit utilizing quality and cost-effective patient care principles to including operations, staffing levels and employee relations. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional emergency medicine knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while maintaining a practice environment that reflects the UnityPoint Health-FOCUS values in accordance with Iowa Department of Health and Human Services regulations. This is a “working” supervisory position.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes, reassigns, and redistributes work, to include scheduling and delegating workflow of patient care in an organized manner.
  • Reviews/reassigns patient assignments based on continuity and skill level of the team member.
  • Coordinates scheduling and maintains appropriate staffing levels and effectively communicates with others to ensure staffing requirements are met.
  • Coordinates orientation program and training of newly hired team members.
  • Coordinates staff education/in-services/specialized skilled training programs including competences.
  • Collaborates with department leader, effectively resolving complex unit situations, such as patient complaints and crises as they occur within the unit.
  • Provides assistance/orientation to those team members that are temporarily reassigned to their unit for the shift.
  • Evaluates and guides staff through coaching and provides immediate feedback and responds to difficult inquiries and problems.
  • Provides feedback and input to Manager for ongoing performance management.
  • Completes and issues performance evaluations with input from the Manager/Director.
  • Collaborates with the department leader to complete patient and employee rounding to meet standards.
  • Assists department leader with performance improvement action plans and implementation of plans, monitoring of supplies/distribution and chart audits. Completes appropriate reports as delegated by Manager.
  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate prehospital medical care.
  • Adapts and adjusts the patient’s care plan according to the patient’s needs in the prehospital setting.
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates Degree (or 60 Hours of Post High School Credit)
  • Successful completion of Paramedic training from an approved training course.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current certification at Paramedic level is required.
  • BLS & CPI/MOAB certification (immediate upon hire)
  • Valid Iowa driver’s license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below).
    • Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years.
    • No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing, or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.

Experience:

  • Three years of EMS experience

Other: 

  • Must be able to work a 24-hour shift when warranted.
