The Assistant General Counsel will focus primarily upon employment law, employment litigation and other litigation support. The experience to perform this role will include written discovery responses, depositions, motion practice and trial practice. Experience as lead counsel desired. This position reports to the Vice President of Risk, Safety and Litigation under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer.
Assistant General Counsels at UnityPoint support the functions of a fast-paced, high-performing law department. This role involves providing sound legal advice and counsel to protect the interests of the organization and serve its mission and strategy. The Assistant General Counsel requires a strong understanding of the laws with the greatest impact to the organization, with particular expertise in areas impacting the Assistant General Counsel’s Practice Group.
Hours: Monday-Friday, day shift
Location: Open to onsite or remote - applicants preferably reside in the UnityPoint Health geography of Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin

Mentoring & Development
Education: Juris Doctor degree from a fully accredited American Bar Association law school
Experience: A minimum of 5 years practicing law
Licenses/Certifications: State Bar and MPRE
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Methods and techniques of case management, prioritization, and control
Plan, organize, integrate and manage legal activities
Proficient with technology, including Microsoft products
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of team members, leaders, and board members
Excellent written and communication skills
Ability to advise on risk and provide advice to senior business leaders
Problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions daily relative to appropriate and applicable projects and matters, including negotiating contracts and mediating disputes
Ability to coordinate work processes and projects with attorneys and market leadership to ensure
projects are completed timely
Ability to operate in ambuiguity and make sound legal recommendations
