The Child Life Activity Assistant, under the direction of the Child Life Manager, is responsible for material management and donations, facilitates hospital or clinic playroom operations, and bedside play. Plans and implements activities to encourage growth and development and normalize healthcare experiences. Observes responses of children and families and reports these observations to Child Life Specialists. Supervises and trains volunteers. Communicates with Child Life staff regarding volunteer interaction, communication and needs.

The Child Life Assistant is responsible for assisting Child Life Specialist with inpatient planning, implementing, and evaluating activities and interactions for the playroom and at the bedside, to support development, meet emotional needs and provide diversion. CLA is also responsible for promoting a family centered care environment in the healthcare center, observing responses of children and families and reporting observations to Child Life Specialist.
Background knowledge in child growth and development usually acquired by 1-2 yrs. college coursework related related to this field and or associate degree. Previous experience working with children, interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with patients, families and staff.
