Responsibilities

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic infectious disease team at the Methodist Hospital Specialty Clinic. This is a great opportunity for nurses who are passionate about patient-centered care and interested in developing their skills in the infectious disease specialty. Whether you bring prior experience in infectious disease or are looking to expand your clinical knowledge in this field, we welcome your application.

In this role, you will help triage and assess patient needs, coordinate care, and support patients and families as they manage a wide range of infectious diseases, including complex and chronic infections. You’ll work closely with experienced infectious disease physicians and healthcare professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Triage

  • Evaluate incoming patient phone calls to determine the urgency of symptoms and appropriate next steps.

  • Provide telephone triage for patients with infections such as HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and other communicable diseases.

  • Guide patients to the right level of care or appropriate follow-up based on clinical need.

Care Coordination

  • Assist in coordinating urgent and emergent care for patients with acute infectious issues (e.g., fever of unknown origin, sepsis, abscesses).

  • Communicate efficiently with infectious disease specialists and the broader clinical team to ensure timely and effective care delivery.

Patient & Family Education

  • Educate patients and caregivers on infectious diseases, treatment regimens (e.g., antibiotics, antivirals), infection prevention, and home care strategies.

  • Provide support and resources tailored to patients with chronic infections (e.g., HIV, hepatitis B/C).

Clinical Documentation & Follow-Up

  • Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans in the electronic health record (EHR).

  • Monitor lab results, follow up on treatment plans, and ensure continuity of care through scheduled check-ins and coordination with other providers.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa - in good standing
  • Experience: All levels of nursing experience will be considered. Prior experience in infectious disease or specialty care is a plus, but not required.
  • Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS and specialty certification (e.g., CNRN) a plus, but not required.
