We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Urgent Care Clinic in Altoona, IA. As a key member of our clinical team, the CMA will support urgent care providers by delivering efficient, compassionate care in a fast-paced, walk-in environment. The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and committed to providing excellent service to patients with a variety of acute medical needs.
Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and reason for visit
Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments
Assist providers with minor procedures, wound care, splinting, and diagnostic testing
Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis) and EKGs
Administer injections and vaccines under provider direction
Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Clean and stock exam rooms and maintain clinic cleanliness and infection control standards
Triage walk-in patients based on severity and communicate appropriately with clinical staff
Provide discharge instructions and patient education
Support front desk staff as needed with patient check-in, check-out, and scheduling
Maintain current certifications and participate in ongoing training
Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited program (required) + certification through AAMA, NHA, NCCT or AMT
Active BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required)
Prior experience in urgent care, family practice, or emergency medicine preferred
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
Strong ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems (e.g., Epic, Athena – customizable)
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
