Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Urgent Care Clinic in Altoona, IA. As a key member of our clinical team, the CMA will support urgent care providers by delivering efficient, compassionate care in a fast-paced, walk-in environment. The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and committed to providing excellent service to patients with a variety of acute medical needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and reason for visit

  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments

  • Assist providers with minor procedures, wound care, splinting, and diagnostic testing

  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis) and EKGs

  • Administer injections and vaccines under provider direction

  • Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)

  • Clean and stock exam rooms and maintain clinic cleanliness and infection control standards

  • Triage walk-in patients based on severity and communicate appropriately with clinical staff

  • Provide discharge instructions and patient education

  • Support front desk staff as needed with patient check-in, check-out, and scheduling

  • Maintain current certifications and participate in ongoing training

Qualifications

  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited program (required) + certification through AAMA, NHA, NCCT or AMT

  • Active BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required)

  • Prior experience in urgent care, family practice, or emergency medicine preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills

  • Strong ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems (e.g., Epic, Athena – customizable)

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
