The Cook position is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food for hospital patients, associates, and visitors. Maintains a clean workstation and uses recipes and temperature logs to ensure quality and safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Cooks/prepares all foods according to standardized recipes, paying close attention to details such as pan sizes, cut sizes, times and temperatures.
  • Safely uses and cleans cooking/prep equipment such as knives, meat slicers, ovens, steamers, flat-top griddles, microwaves, and gas ranges.
  • Ensures quality by controlling the taste, temperature, and appearance of all foods.
  • Uses proper handwashing techniques in conjunction with proper disposable glove usage and clean utensils to avoid contamination of foods.
  • Maintains a cleaned and sanitized workstation throughout the shift and completes the required daily/weekly cleaning tasks.
  • Records accurate temperatures of all food and refrigeration units as required. Understands the proper corrective actions to take when temperature variances occur.
  • Understands and uses food production worksheets to maintain adequate food par levels and reduce food waste.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
  • Flexibility, interpersonal skills, planning and problem-solving
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

 

Preferred:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred
  • 6 to 12 months of cooking experience in a healthcare or restaurant setting
  • Culinary Arts degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of cooking experience in a healthcare or restaurant setting preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons
  • ServSafe certification preferred.
