The Marketing Communications Specialist defines comprehensive communications and marketing strategies that support UnityPoint Health’s mission and vision. Provide leadership, consultation and expertise in one or more key functional areas of marketing, public relations and/or communications:

  • Media relations
  • Public relations
  • Special events
  • Marketing
  • Internal communications

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Identify specific communication goals, objectives and evaluation methods and provide recommendations to establish creative direction.
  • Develop strategic and imaginative communication plans, managing and overseeing the details of project from start to finish.
  • Build effective relationships with the media and/or community contacts and internal stakeholders.
  • Work with departments across the region on activities to achieve business and market goals.
  • Contribute to the successful creation of marketing campaigns.
  • Manage projects that support communications or marketing efforts.
  • Manage marketing budgets for service lines and all special events.
  • Determine need for community events, programs or seminars. Plan for, promote, coordinate, implement and evaluate.
  • This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.
  • Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis in journalism, communication, public relations or marketing.  Master’s degree or Accreditation (APR) preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism or related field required.
  • License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated creative ability with regard to writing, promotions, advertising and strong editing skills. Knowledge of current trends and techniques in marketing, public relations, media relations, advertising and social media. Demonstrated leadership skills required. Skilled in project management, event planning, managing multiple projects for delivery in a timely manner and within the fiscal budget. Requires highly developed communication skills to effectively work with all levels of management throughout the UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s, its subsidiaries and affiliates. Excellent academic credentials with a track record of professional accomplishments, which demonstrate superior performance, leadership and vision. Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Other:  Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, and Outlook.
