The Anesthesia RN works in collaboration with the certified registered nurse anesthetist and surgical services nursing staff to correlate clinical data in preparation of surgical procedures requiring anesthesia services.

· Assesses and monitors total physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
· Assists in evaluating and preparing patients pre-operatively under the direction of the Anesthesiologist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and/or other supervising physician.
· Assists and documents data accurately in the patient review of systems in the pre-anesthetic assessment with appropriate medical direction of the Anesthesiologist, CRNA and/or other supervising physician.
· Reviews patient’s chart to ensure that appropriate lab data, x-ray, EKG and medical history are documented.
· Documents nursing care consistent with documentation guidelines and nursing standards.
· Seeks appropriate consultation with Anesthesiologist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and/or other supervising physician prior to change in plan of care or when faced with change in medical condition.
· Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
· Demonstrates positive, professional communication with open dialogue among members of the healthcare team.
· Provides nursing care utilizing a knowledge base and understanding regarding medical necessity.
· Demonstrates collaborative decision making when participation with other healthcare team Provides assistance and direction in maintaining excellent working relationship with referring physicians and multidisciplinary team.
· Engages in collegial relationships, which support personal and professional growth.
· Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.

· Assesses and monitors total physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of the surgical patients from infant through geriatrics.
· Develops and maintains an individualized, professional plan of care reflective of changing needs/outcomes and modified by evaluation the patient’s response to the plan of care during the surgical phase of care.
· Provides nursing care in accordance with nursing standards and the surgical patient’s plan of care.
· Documents nursing care consistent with documentation guidelines.
· Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred, Associate Degree accepted.
Experience:
Five years of Critical Care and/or Operating Room experience.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa or applicable compact state. Must be licensed in state of residence. BCLS certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required within six months of taking job.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to delegate wisely, exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships, adapt to change, evaluate critically and think creatively. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to postop patients of all ages. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with various clinical staff and other disciplines.
