Overview

The Robotics Coordinator is accountable for the safe and effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient care for the peri-operative patient undergoing robotic surgery and/or procedures. The Robotics Coordinator provides leadership and support pertaining to coordination and execution of robotics procedures and serves as a liaison between the hospital, staff, physicians, and Intuitive Surgical.

Responsibilities

Equipment/Supply/Instrumentation Maintenance

  • Cares for needs and maintenance of SI and XI systems and associated equipment within the department, including but not limited to: assuring regular preventative maintenance is completed, coordinating return
  • merchandise authorization requests with the Sterile Processing department or Operating Room Supply Technician, and overseeing par levels of robotic supplies and instruments
  • Collaborates with the Sterile Processing Department Manager and staff to maintain robotic trays and instruments
  • Reviews/maintains robotic instrument trays and preference cards

 

Clinical Education/Support

  • Conducts Robotic First Assist Course for physicians and staff in a professional manner
  • Coordinates physician training and maintenance of training equipment, including but not limited to the robotic simulator and training instruments
  • Maintains records for training tutorials, competencies, and simulators
  • Collaborates with Robotics team supervisor on staffing needs for robotics cases and education requirements for Operating Room staff
  • Provides clinical support and troubleshooting for robotics procedures as needed

 

Program Management

  • Co-chair of the Robotics Steering Committee
  • Coordinates scheduling of robotics cases with the scheduling department
  • Maintains and updates Operating Room/Hospital policies/procedures related to robotic surgery
  • Collaborates with the Program Manager of Physician Relations on Epicenter scheduling and maintenance of Epicenter Materials
  • Collaborates with Robotic team supervisor and Business Manager for Surgical Services on robotics needs for capital budget

 

Basic UPH Performance Criteria          

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.  Brings any questions or concerns
  • regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing or other healthcare related degree
  • One year experience on robotics specialty team and two years of operating room experience
  • NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist or Current Licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa 
  • Completion of Robotics Coordinator modules and assessment through DaVinci Surgical Community within 3 months of appointment to the position 
  • Completion of Robotics Coordinator course through Intuitive Surgical within 6 months of appointment to position
  • Working knowledge of current robotics technology and emerging modalities 
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English 
  • Basic computer knowledge using Microsoft Office, web browser, and email
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position
