Overview

This position shall be responsible for the installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, routine maintenance and programming of non-medical electronic equipment including, but not limited to, audio and visual equipment, communications systems, nurse call systems, nurse tracer systems, pneumatic tube system, food and nutrition equipment, laundry equipment, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, access control systems, automatic door operators and other safety and security systems.

Responsibilities

Operational Functions

  • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Observes UPH performance standards.
  • Displays considerable initiative and judgment involved in determining extent of repairs as may be required on all equipment and buildings selecting appropriate materials, utilizing the most effective methods, techniques and procedures when required to complete job assignments.
  • Supports Director of Public Safety and Director of Emergency Patient Transport to maintain equipment, parts, supplies and makes recommendations regarding desired changes in the operation and maintenance of the UPH land mobile radio system.
  • Keeps informed through periodicals, books, training seminars, on-the-job training and other sources and participates in approved training programs to further job knowledge.
  • Maintains all Land Mobile Radio equipment with the support of vendors and maintains records associated with the Land Mobile Radio system.
  • Observes and practices accepted procedures in the care and use of equipment and tools.
  • Observes all safety regulations and practices.
  • Communicates with Director of Public Safety and fellow employees to achieve understanding in a positive manner.
  • Willing to learn and accept new technology in the electronic field, such as computerized, wireless, microwave, etc.
  • Performs on-call duties during unscheduled working hours as assigned and is able to respond to emergency calls when necessary.
  • Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances. 
  • Must be self-directed and assume responsibility for timely completion of job responsibilities. · Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. · Supports the Land Mobile Radio System and UnityPoint Health by attending and representing statewide interoperability, technology, and training as necessary to maintain standards and relationships with Public Safety Answering Points and First Responder agencies.
Other Functions- performed as needed

  • This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH Emergency Incident Command System.
  • Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. 

    Qualifications

    Education:

    High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of a two (2) year associate of science degree in electronic equipment repair or equivalent experience.

    Experience:

    Minimum of two (2) years electronic repair experience in industrial or commercial operations. Hospital experience is desirable but not mandatory.

    License(s)/Certification(s):

    Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Must be familiar with regulatory agencies such as IEEE, FERC, FCC, NEC, etc. Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

    Other:

    Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
