Chaplain (Certified or Non-Certified)

UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital

Shift: Part-time (approximately 16 hours/week)

The chaplain provides spiritual care for patients and families through direct visits. Spiritual care is also provided through regular contact with hospital team members and regular consultation with nursing, social services, and medical staff. Chaplain serves as contact with visiting clergy.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver spiritual care to patients and families, including documentation of care provided
  • Interact and coordinate with visiting clergy when applicable
  • Participate fully and respectfully in patient care conferences as member of the care team, collaborating with other care team members for the benefit of patients and families
  • Deliver spiritual care to team members
  • Consistently utilize a holistic approach to care, considering physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and relational needs

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with additional theological education; Seminary degree or equivalent preferred

License/Certifications:

  • Successful completion of at least 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) as evidenced by Certificate of Completion
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement

Experience:

  • Demonstrable pastoral ministry, hospital/healthcare ministry, or institutional chaplaincy
