Overview

The Vice President of the Oncology Service Line Operations works in a dyad relationship with the Service Line Chief Medical Officer as the accountable operations leader for all services provided within the service line across the entire UnityPoint geography and across all sites of service. Key activities include setting strategic priorities, operations leadership, achieving financial goals through service line P&L management, and partnering with key leaders and physicians in optimizing growth, clinical &operational effectiveness and efficiency. The VP is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge in national developments relevant to service line activities and to partner closely with the Executive Director of Service Line Strategy on growth and insights.

Responsibilities

  • Operations and Financial Leadership
    • Lead day to day operations of the designated service line with strong partnership with related market leaders and positions.
    • Have a visible presence in the market with senior leaders, direct reports, and other key stakeholders.
    • Create and maintain a collaborative and experience-focused environment across markets within the service line.
    • Maintains compliance with personnel, risk management and compliance policies and procedures.
    • Develops, assists and monitors appropriate staffing and deployment of resources to ensure care is accessible across the designated service areas. Provide operational oversight for specific activities and programs as it relates to service line as needed.
    • Partners with related market leaders to hire market service line leaders, build team member capabilities through rigorous objective setting, clear roles and responsibilities, frequent feedback, and cultivation of an environment of accountability.
    • Prepare annual report regarding the state of the service line for Health System leaders and other key stakeholders.
    • Ensure collaboration and connectivity with key market, clinic, and at home leaders to ensure a positive patient, team member, and community experience within the service line.
    • Manage the profit and loss of the service line and work with dyad partners and necessary markets to drive necessary changes.
    • Participate in strategic and operational capital discussions pertaining to service line activities.
    • Develop and implement tactics in collaboration with the physician lead that leads to the overall profitability of the service line.
  • Performance Improvement
    • Meet regularly and partner with physician leader and other key stakeholders to analyze organizational and benchmark data and statistics to identify both clinical and operational best practices and performance improvement opportunities.
      • Support clinical leadership in driving clinical outcomes improvement initiatives.
      • Collate, present, and lead performance improvement system-wide initiatives for the Service Lines.
    • Develop and maintain operational expertise relevant to the Service Line, including expertise around contractual agreements, care delivery models, new and evolving technology, outsourced services, community connections, etc.
    • Utilize system services performance improvement team, when helpful, to deliver an exceptional experience that is operationally and financially sound.
  • Strategy and Business Development

    • Partner with the Executive Director of Service Line Strategy and Chief Medical Officer to develop a short term (1-2 year) and long-term (2-5 year) service line strategic plan informed by the UPH strategic plan.
    • Present strategic plan to critical leadership bodies for review and alignment, such as Senior Team, SLG, SIOC, and CLC.
    • Surface ideas for new programs, initiatives and technology investments, and participate in business plan development and discussions with all stakeholders.
    • Participate in workforce planning discussions for operations leaders.
    • Partner with markets, HR, and Nursing to lead the development of service line staff recruitment strategies and actively participate in the recruitment process.
    • Partner with the Executive Director of Service Line Strategy on continuous growth strategies.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Required: BSN, BA, BS
  • Preferred: Advanced degree

 

Experience: 

  • Required: Three years of management experience in a healthcare field. Two years of experience in a position relevant to the service line.
  • Preferred: Five or more years in a position relevant to Oncology. 

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Other:
