We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our central laboratory team at the Ankeny Medical Park, serving a variety of outpatient clinics including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Specialty Care. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting laboratory operations by collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, and ensuring a safe, accurate, and efficient patient experience.
Greet and identify patients, verify lab orders, and collect blood, urine, and other specimens per protocol.
Perform venipuncture and capillary draws on patients of all ages.
Process, label, and prepare specimens for transport to reference labs.
Conduct waived or moderate-complexity point-of-care tests under CLIA guidelines.
Document all specimen collections and test results accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
Ensure proper patient preparation, identification, and specimen handling to maintain sample integrity.
Maintain cleanliness and inventory of phlebotomy stations and lab draw areas.
Follow all infection control, HIPAA, and safety policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with patients, clinical staff, and providers across multiple departments and specialties.
Assist with coordination of lab services across various clinics in the medical park.
For CMA:
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Current certification as a CMA (AAMA, NCCT, NHA, or AMT).
Phlebotomy experience
BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
For LPN:
Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
Current LPN license in the state of Iowa.
Phlebotomy experience
BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
