Responsibilities

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our central laboratory team at the Ankeny Medical Park, serving a variety of outpatient clinics including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Specialty Care. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting laboratory operations by collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, and ensuring a safe, accurate, and efficient patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and identify patients, verify lab orders, and collect blood, urine, and other specimens per protocol.

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary draws on patients of all ages.

  • Process, label, and prepare specimens for transport to reference labs.

  • Conduct waived or moderate-complexity point-of-care tests under CLIA guidelines.

  • Document all specimen collections and test results accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).

  • Ensure proper patient preparation, identification, and specimen handling to maintain sample integrity.

  • Maintain cleanliness and inventory of phlebotomy stations and lab draw areas.

  • Follow all infection control, HIPAA, and safety policies and procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, clinical staff, and providers across multiple departments and specialties.

  • Assist with coordination of lab services across various clinics in the medical park.

Qualifications

For CMA:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

  • Current certification as a CMA (AAMA, NCCT, NHA, or AMT).

  • Phlebotomy experience 

  • BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

For LPN:

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.

  • Current LPN license in the state of Iowa.

  • Phlebotomy experience 

  • BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
