As a collaborative member of the market leadership team, the Executive Director of Finance is responsible for a market with one hospital location, an ADC less than 75, without ASC sites, joint ventures or other complex relationships and has primary focus on the long-range financial and capital planning, operating and capital budgeting, financial operations, and other finance related processes necessary to create a world-class finance organization. The Executive Director of Finance fosters a culture focused on financial improvement, operational improvement, and accountability. This individual is responsible for establishing strong relationships and maintaining visibility to performance for UnityPoint System Service, Market Board, Senior Team and Leadership Team. The Executive Director is responsible for the financial performance of the entire market and works closely with the market’s President, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Operations leader, and other members of the market senior team to drive efficiencies. The role is under the direct supervision of the Market President with a matrixed reporting relationship to the VP of Financial Operations and/or a contiguous market VP of Finance.

Financial Management/Performance
• Ensure credibility of the Finance department by effective management, strong communications and providing timely and accurate analysis of financial data, reports and trends on a routine basis.
• Oversee and work directly with leadership on short-term financial forecasting activities to ensure the region has a financial plan that recognizes current market situations.
• Become a trusted advisor by establishing and maintaining relationships with senior management to identify their needs and seek a range of business solutions.
• Serve as the liaison with all constituents and departments for financial matters.
• Provide senior management with counsel on the financial implications of business activities and work with them to provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance of the organization.
• Accountable for and use of system-wide standardized financial systems & structures, including long range financial plans, budgets, financial reporting, accounting, reimbursement, and policies and procedures to assure the value of the system is maximized.
• Support and collaborate with system services functions such as supply chain, revenue cycle, accounting, etc.
• Implement standards and procedures for financial planning and reporting for operations, consistent with system practices and objectives.
Strategic & Financial Analysis
• Lead the development of a long-range financial and capital plans, incorporating internal and external factors to ensure executive leadership has information to make long-term decisions and position the region on a financially sustainable path.
• In partnership with System Finance and Strategic Analytics, support a best-in-class financial, planning and analysis function to ensure management has appropriate information to make business decisions.
• Provide strategic and operational leadership for market activities, including any applicable joint ventures to ensure that budgets and strategic initiative goals are met.
• Ensures that financial discipline and accountability for cost management are driving forces in the management of UPH. Ensures that all important decisions are accompanied by a reliable financial analysis.
• Participate in the development of all business analytics, working with large data sets and conducting the analysis for reporting and decision-making.
Leadership
• Operate as a senior leader for the market but assume responsibility and accountability as the advocate for overall system objectives and goals.
• Responsible for a continuous learning environment for all leaders in the organization and support their financial educational needs through the deployment of key curriculum within the financial enterprise.
• Use influence and persuasion to effectively lead others, independent of direct or matrix reporting relationship.
• Collaborate with all stakeholders and effectively communicate across the system. Interact with colleagues at all levels of the organization and in the community in a diplomatic, professional, and tactful manner.
• Support key internal communications regarding performance by translating complex data into an easy-to-understand story that is relatable to our leaders.
• Facilitate cross functional/multidisciplinary collaboration with a goal to decrease silos. Foster an environment which encourages the team to go the next step, find an answer for a colleague.
• Provide leadership to ensure the overall finance role and financial performance is understood in the organization and broader community.
Partnership with System Leadership
• Managed Care: Assume a support role, in collaborating with System leadership teams regarding managed care contracting and payer contracting issues.
• Revenue Cycle: Partner with System leadership in the management and execution of our revenue cycle initiatives as well as serve as a key member of our Executive Strategy Council.
• Central Accounting: Support the underlying workflows and processes necessary to have a high functioning centralized accounting function to complete month-end close in a timely manner. This also includes accounts payable, payroll and tax functions.
• Supply Chain and Logistics: Partner with System leadership to ensure contract negotiations maximize the value to the System.
• Treasury: Support the work of System leadership in managing the balance sheet for the Region and the System.
• Analytics: Partner with System leadership to support the interpretation and translation of data into information used to improve outcomes, relying on System resources to design and maintain the analytical infrastructure, engineers, and developers.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting or other related discipline is required.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a financial leadership capacity.
Industry experience should include at least 5 years health system or in a multi-disciplinary, multi-site healthcare operation.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the finance function in either a hospital/group setting/health care system or an organization of similar complexity.
Strong leadership, strategic management, and vision skills with a commitment to innovation and creative solutions.
Knowledge and experience in finance, operations management, project management, strategic planning and building strong relationships.
Strong grasp of details, consistently ahead of the curve when it comes to interpreting data, seeing trends and anticipating questions.
