Obtains and verifies demographic and financial information during the registration process to ensure the correct patient has been registered, pre-certification requirements have been met and signatures obtained on all associated paperwork. When registration functions are completed with accuracy this helps ensure patient safety through appropriate identification, maximum reimbursement for hospital charges and compliance with all state and federal regulations.
The Wound Healing Center is an outpatient department that specializes in care of patients with acute and chronic wounds and ostomy care. The Wound Healing Center’s mission is to provide a comprehensive, cost effective approach to wound healing with a multi-specialty team that provides for the accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, prevention/reoccurrence of wounds, and the education of the patient and caregiver.

Registration/Scheduling
Demonstrates knowledge of the wound healing center functions, policies and procedures.
Promotes a positive image of the department and hospital when receiving visitors and telephone callers; appropriately aids and/or directs to correct source as needed.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient/client information.
Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
Interview patient/family member to obtain accurate demographic and financial for data entry during the registration process.
Obtain signatures on all forms pertinent to the patient’s current visit from the patient or family member who has authority to sign on behalf of the patient.
Answer questions about the registration process and provides information as needed.
Obtain and accurately document pre-certification or other necessary authorizations using established departmental insurance guidelines to ensure maximum financial reimbursement.
Ensure medical necessity has been established (for Medicare outpatients) or that the patient signs a waiver for non-covered services.
Photo-copy and scan insurance cards and driver’s licenses.
Assist with scheduling appointments and compiling referrals and paperwork for new patients prior to their visit.
Scan patient documents into the medical record and label other patient documents and send to HIM.
Obtain release of medical records forms when needed and send to HIM or outside facility.
Assist with patient check out/AVS/scheduling of next appointment daily.
Works referral que to schedule patient appointment daily.
Bring lab products to lab daily.
Phone calls-incoming, transfer and send messages thru EPIC.
Billing
Collects co-payments according to departmental payment protocol.
Completes cash drawer and bank deposits daily.
Verify insurance benefits and document coverages with each visit.
Fax insurance documents following hospital and contractual guidelines.
Audits work daily for accuracy and makes corrections in a timely manner.
Works accounts in assigned queues as assigned by the manager.
Refer patients that need financial assistance to the hospital financial advocate.
Administrative
Performs general office duties to foster efficient department operations: distributes office mail, files for department; orders adequate levels of supplies, initiates service calls, maintains neat general office appearance, performs other related duties.
Assists in organizing and maintaining filing systems for patient records.
Produces accurately typed well-formatted materials for the department in a timely manner.
Maintains current versions of forms; develops new and revised forms and work schedules.
Maintains organized computer filing system.
Pick up mail from the mailroom and box daily.
Complete department faxing daily.
Education
High School graduate or equivalent degree.
Completion of a Medical terminology class.
Experience
Previous experience in a medical setting preferred.
Working knowledge of medical terminology and spelling accuracy required.
Previous customer experience preferred.
Other
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.

Must be able to multitask and stay on track with completing job functions in a very busy work environment with multiple distractions.
