Prepare patients for exams and minor procedures, obtaining vital signs and health histories.
Perform clinical tasks within scope, including administering medications, vaccinations, and specimen collection.
Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record following established protocols.
Track follow-up care related to lab tests, procedures, and specialist referrals.
Manage incoming results and coordinate follow-up per provider instructions.
Answer patient/family questions and reinforce provider instructions.
Maintain knowledge of lab/procedure results and act within licensure scope.
Stay current on policies, compliance standards (CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA), and department communications.
Support team collaboration and contribute to a positive patient experience.
Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and behaviors.
Ensure regular, reliable attendance and completion of all mandatory training.
Uphold professional standards related to licensure, safety, compliance, and confidentiality.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Alternative: 3–5 years CMA experience or completion of a registered apprenticeship.
High school diploma required for CLIA-moderate complexity lab work.
Licensure/Certifications:
Current CMA certification (AAMA, NCCT, AMT, or NHA).
Current BLS and Mandatory Reporter certifications.
Valid driver’s license if driving for work-related tasks.
Experience:
Prior clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
Skills:
Strong communication and patient-service orientation.
Proficiency in basic computer tasks (Microsoft Office).
Ability to think critically and work independently within licensure scope.
Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
