Overview

Manages facility operations for UnityPoint Health - Jones Regional Medical Center and all associated clinics overseen by Jones Regioanl Medical Center.  Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the hospital’s day-to-day facilities management and loss prevention functions to assure a safe and sanitary environment for patients, employees, and visitors through an effective preventive maintenance program with awareness of cost containment.  Is directly responsible for all aspects of management of maintenance.  The position has 24-hour accountability for the technical operations of the support departments within the facility.

Responsibilities

Management

  • Must be knowledgeable in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, grounds, and routine repairs required for the facility operations. Is required to have knowledge of security and medical equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains records on all actions performed on items under the responsibility of the Facilities Department.
  • Displays considerable initiative and judgment involved in determining extent of repairs as may be required on all equipment and buildings selecting appropriate materials, utilizing the most effective methods, techniques and procedures when required to complete job assignments.
  • Cooperates with Manager, Facilities Operations and other employees to maintain equipment, parts and supplies and makes recommendations to Manager regarding desired changes in operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Keeps informed through periodicals, books, training seminars, on-the-job training and other sources and participates in approved training programs to further knowledge.
  • Coordinates work with contractors and vendors.
  • Supervises daily operations of the maintenance area (mechanics, carpenters, painters, out properties maintenance).
  • Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluates and disciplines staff with appropriate input.
  • Schedules, facilitates and documents in-service educational programs for department staff.
  • Processes daily time reports for the proper tracking of work order requests.
  • Performs on-call duties during unscheduled working hours as assigned and is able to respond to emergency calls when necessary.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.
  • Uses reliable private transportation when needed with suitable compensation.
  • Performs functions other than described below due to extenuating circumstances.

 

Departmental Support

  • Must be self-directed and assume responsibility for timely completion of job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

Other Functions – performed on an as needed basis

  • This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of a trade school course or trade apprenticeship program is desired but not mandatory
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in industrial or commercial operations in the maintenance field
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience of supervisory experience
  • Must be familiar with building maintenance techniques as applied to systems and equipment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position
