UnityPoint-St. Luke's

Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

 

To serve as a receptionist and to perform clerical duties within a nursing unit. To provide administrative support to the nursing director and manager of the unit.

Responsibilities

Communication

  • Displays excellent receptionist skills in greeting all customers including both internal and external. Answers phone and call light with proper phone etiquette, and sensitivity to the needs of the caller. Contacts staff immediately for patient care needs or assists with patient needs. Assists physicians as needed.

Delivery of Care

  • Assists patients with ADL’s according to hospital procedures, reports all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse in charge of patient. Assists with ambulation of patients and uses assist devices as appropriate to protect patient and staff member.
  • Assists with restocking of rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment. Follows all established infection control policies and recognizes role in providing safety to the patient.    

Administrative/ Clerical

  • Orders needed office supplies, or other supplies as needed for the areas. Organizes nurses’ station to keep records neat and well organized.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

 

Experience:

  • Two to three years of responsible secretarial experience, preferably in a healthcare setting with demonstrated communication skills desired.
  • Ability to be flexible with hours and to work under pressure.
  • Good judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly discrete, able to routinely handle confidential materials.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and assignments.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Certified nursing assistant or completion of training in nursing school that covers nursing assistant type duties.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of one stroke awareness/recognition activity prior to the end of orientation and annually.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Fax, phone, call lights and order entry.  Must have effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, and written). 
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to type.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
