Overview

Shift: 8:00am-4:30pm; Monday-Friday.

 

Patient Transporter, under the direction of the Manager of Imaging Services or assigned supervisor, is responsible for transporting patients; assisting in lifting, moving, and attending to patients; maintaining cleanliness of transportation equipment and patient waiting and dressing areas; assisting in the radiology offices and assigned imaging area.

Responsibilities

Job Performance 

  • Readily responds to transport requests via the RIS/HIS system 
  • Always checks two patient identifiers prior to transporting patient to next care area 
  • Transports patient via, cart or wheelchair based on request 
  • Provides pertinent patient information to the next care area 
  • Reports any delays, need for assistance or emergencies to the patient care area 

Patient Care 

  • Acknowledges patients, visitors and healthcare provider upon arrival to the unit/department. 
  • Informs patient about transport using AIDET  
  • Offers supportive conversations to help ease patient anxiety/fear is needed 
  • Checks for and acquires patient consents from nursing staff, reports any special conditions (i.e. NPO, etc. or any impairments/communication barriers) and communicates preps for diagnostic procedures prior to transporting patient. 

Qualifications

Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent. Medical Terminology preferred.

 

Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a hospital setting. Prior Transport experience preferred.

 

License(s)/Certification(s): CPR certification. 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Adaptability, Collaboration, Communication – written & verbal, Decision making, Flexibility, Customer/patient focused, Interpersonal skills, Managing priorities/deadlines, Planning and organizing skills, Technical Aptitude – ability to learn new systems quickly Required. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

 

Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
