Overview

The Guest Relations Assistant will facilitate the patient/client intake process by assisting patients/clients in reaching appropriate points of service. The Guest Relations Assistant also helps ensure the CWCH guests successfully reach their destination. The Guest Relations Assistant works collaboratively with volunteers and the CWCH staff to ensure smooth flow of patients/clients through all units in the CWCH.

Responsibilities

Clerical Support

  • Greets all customers, patients, family members, physicians and healthcare team members, ascertains their needs and provides assistance or direction accordingly.
  • Responds to the phone and call system promptly and courteously.
  • Accurately uses the copy/fax machine and/or tube station.
  • Assures medical record order is concurrently maintained per hospital policy and/or department routine.
  • Assures a new medical record is accessible for patient admission.
  • Assists in accurately ordering and scheduling patient procedures, follow-up healthcare team appointments.
  • Assists department leadership team other clerical functions as directed.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly nurses’ station.
  • Assists in maintenance of department nourishment and supply inventories.
  • Maintains a system for control and follow-up on department items/equipment sent for repair.
  • Supports the St. Luke’s Hospital’s Comfort/C.A.R.E. Professional Practice Model in their daily work practices. 

 

Effective Communication

  • Verbally presents factual, concise, and timely information and/or patient care data to the RN, the healthcare team, patients and/or family members in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, healthcare team members and other customers.
  • Real-time EMR documentation is done in accordance with hospital and unit policies.
  • Hand-offs are done with attention to detail and with safety as a priority.
  • Consults with RN and/or other healthcare team members, as appropriate.
  • Complies with established department routines, policies and procedures.

 

Patient Care

  • May assist in Patient Care Technician responsibilities, under the direction of the RN, per department expectations and appropriate competency validation. See Patient Care Technician position description and PCT Scope of Practice for job responsibilities.
  • May assist in transporting medications that are not controlled substances from pharmacy delivery devices to medication storage areas on patient care unit, as well as transporting medications from patient care unit to pharmacy.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient and personal safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Maintain current BLS certification-if functioning in PCT role.  If minimal patient contact BLS is optional. 
  • Ability to successfully complete a basic computer course on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) through in-hospital training
  • Ability to effectively use information systems and Microsoft Office systems
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
