The nurse manager has 24 hour accountability and responsibility for nursing operations including the Clinical Resource Team and House Supervisors.  The manager is responsible for creating safe, healthy environments that support the work of the health care team and contribute to patient engagement.  The manager   assists in creating   a professional environment where team members are able to contribute to optimal patient outcomes and grow professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the leadership, controlling and supervising the activities of nursing services.
  • Responsible for hiring and maintaining sufficient staffing and scheduling. Oversee the orientation of new employees.
  • In charge of the employee evaluation process and performance appraisals. Conduct coaching and disciplinary with staff and lead.
  • Developing and updating all Nursing services policies and procedures including maintenance of the policy manual while complying with hospital regulatory requirements like CoP, DIAL, and CAH rulings.
  • Assist in monthly mock codes/drills with the Trauma Coordinator to ensure competency of skills and processes. Example:  Trauma, Adult & Pediatric Codes, Burn Victim, Emergency Deliveries etc.
  • Developing the nursing budgets and monitor and approve the purchasing of supplies and the equipment program. Completion of all necessary lease agreements.
  • Responsible for the CQI program for nursing services. Selecting monitors, collecting data, developing action plans, and reporting to the monthly meeting of activities.
  • Developing and maintaining a nurse competency program.
  • Lead monthly nurses’ meetings and provide minutes.
  • Coordinate onsite and/or online CEU programs and ensure nursing education for nursing services.
  • Attend various hospital meetings.
  • Manage the patient satisfaction program for nursing by using patient satisfaction survey reports.
  • Have an understanding of the surgery, ED, infusion and inpatient departments in an effort to provide support and backup during absences of lead.
  • Develop education and workflow innovation for process improvements within the department.
  • Provide process enhancements through educational opportunities when working with the staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred
  • Must have a current RN license in the state of Iowa
  • Prefer 5 years of experience as a staff nurse
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Maintain current ACLS, PALS, TNCC, BLS certificates
  • Possess adequate computer knowledge and skills
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Working manager maintaining skills and knowledgeable in all levels of care duties so will be able to step in and assist at any given moment
