The CMA or LPN – Cardiology Clinics provides direct patient care and clinical support to cardiology providers in a fast-paced, outpatient specialty setting. This role is essential in preparing patients for visits, assisting with procedures, coordinating follow-up care, and ensuring accurate documentation. The CMA/LPN works closely with providers, RNs, and the broader care team to support patients with complex cardiovascular needs across various clinic locations in the Des Moines area.
Greet, room, and prepare patients for cardiac consultations and follow-up visits.
Collect and record vital signs, health history, medication reconciliation, and other relevant clinical information.
Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the provider and within scope of practice.
Assist providers with in-office procedures such as EKGs, pacemaker checks, stress tests, and Holter monitor placements.
Provide patient education regarding cardiac medications, lifestyle modifications, and home monitoring.
Facilitate communication between patients and providers through message handling, triage, and care coordination.
Schedule appointments, labs, diagnostic testing (e.g., echocardiograms, nuclear imaging), and specialty referrals.
Maintain and stock exam rooms, ensure cleanliness, and manage medical supplies and equipment.
Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR).
Follow all infection control and patient safety protocols.
Active Iowa certification as a CMA (through AAMA or NCCT) or current Iowa LPN license (unencumbered)
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Proficiency with basic clinical procedures and patient care workflows
Excellent communication and organizational skills
