This position is a graduate resident (student position). The resident learns clinical spiritual care provision under supervision while working as a chaplain. The position is contingent upon the student’s continuing progress in meeting the goals of our Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) curriculum. Chaplain Residents provide pastoral care to patients, visitors, and team members in UnityPoint Health – Des Moines hospitals. They provide consultation to the treatment team on the spiritual and emotional issues affecting patient care. They offer spiritual care that enhances patient adjustment to illness and treatment, eases stress associated with hospitalization, and contributes to satisfaction of patients and visitors. They learn excellence in clinical ministry in an established and accredited CPE program.

Direct Patient Care:
Education: Baccalaureate Degree. Master’s Degree, and 1 successfully completed unit of CPE required. Master’s Degree preferred in areas of theological study
Experience: Experience in clinical chaplaincy, congregational ministry, or other directly applicable work preferred.
