Overview

The Manager of Infection Prevention advances the infection prevention strategy through operational leadership and oversight of the Infection Prevention Team. This position provides guidance, direction and oversight of all activities within the team, serves as a consultant and mentor to Infection Preventionists, facilitates the development and implementation of plans to achieve program and organizational goals, and collaborates with diverse teams and individuals throughout the healthcare environment to support improved outcomes and promote compliance with infection prevention related regulations, guidelines and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee implementation and evaluation of the infection prevention plan according to system-wide strategy and risk assessment. 
  • Lead system-wide policy and procedure implementation and compliance monitoring 
  • Support infection prevention teams using current standards, guidelines and evidence-based practice to facilitate implementation of improvement activities designed to prevent healthcare-associated infections. 
  • Interact, communicate and collaborate with other healthcare workers and multidisciplinary groups regarding improvement efforts. 
  • Oversee surveillance and reporting for healthcare-associated infections (HAI) utilizing the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance definitions and in accordance with state and/or federal requirements and UPH infection prevention strategies and priorities as outlined by market and system prevention plans. 
  • Oversee healthcare associated infection (HAI) event investigation. 
  • Assess performance of infection prevention process measures and interpret data related to infection prevention outcome measures 
    • Coordinate activities designed to ensure compliance with infection prevention-related regulatory requirements. 
    • Develop and support education, just-in-time education and coaching at the elbow. 
    • Develop and oversee response to emerging infectious diseases and outbreaks. 
    • Ensure internal and external reporting of information and data. 
    • Oversee utilization of data to make recommendations for action. 
      • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and team members creating an environment where UnityPoint Health values are continuously exceeded 
      • Demonstrate effective leadership skills of the organization, via delegation and coordination of departmental activities. 
      • Provide oversight for the day-to-day operations of the Infection Prevention Program, department and Infection Preventionists ensuring cost effectiveness and financial vitality are maintained and enhanced. 
      • Motivate, facilitate, mentor, and coach Infection Preventionists to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services 
      • Facilitate the ongoing learning, well-being, professional satisfaction, and development of Infection Preventionists through training, work assignments, increased responsibility, and mentoring. 
      • Evaluate performance of direct reports and teams. Make recommendations for personnel actions and motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. 
      • Develop and ensure metrics, goals, and projects are executed, tracked, and accomplished for the department and program. 
      • Develop budgets for department staffing and program operations, and capital resources. Manage actual costs to budget and proactively address any unfavorable budget variances 
      • Present data, strategies and progress toward goals in applicable forums. 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in Health Science, Healthcare, Public Health, Laboratory Science or related field 

 

Experience: 3 years experience in Infection Prevention and Control. 3 years in Healthcare Leadership, Healthcare Quality, Epidemiology or related role required.
