Shift: Full-time; M-F 1500-2300

Potential Sign-On Bonus: $3,000 paid over 1 year 

 

The Security Officer II is responsible for providing security screening services that seek to create a safe and secure environment for the hospital community.  The Security Officer II undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations; both routine and emergent that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, as they occur on hospital owned or controlled property.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
  • Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises.
  • Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
  • Screen visitors, patients, and team members at entrances.
  • Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Complete incident report on any significant security incident or concern, relays safety related information as appropriate

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or highest level of post-secondary education
  • 1 year relevant safety and security experience
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons
  • Must obtain Iowa weapons permit and be Taser certified within 30 days
  • Certification from International Association of Healthcare Security & Safety (if not certified, must obtain certification within 90 days) or commiserate experience
  • Ability to de-escalate violent, aggressive, or disruptive persons
  • Use of critical thinking in a high stress environment
  • Excellent observation skills

 Preferred:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice law enforcement preferred
  • Military, law enforcement and/or security experience is highly preferred
