Overview

Day Shift, Full-time

Location: On-site in Des Moines, IA with occasional travel.

 

The Director of the System Transfer Center serves as the administrative leader for the transfer center and works closely with the Manager, Program Manager, and Medical Directors to ensure facility compliance in markets surrounding transfers and that transfer center workflows are working as designed. This role will ensure budget adherence for department operational costs and have accountabilities to length of stay and throughput system goals. This person is expected to skillfully work with groups of physicians and other health care professionals to understand barriers and improve effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency of transfers and patient access utilizing technology and clinical best practices. This position will be responsible for ensuring that teams use evidence and data as the primary guiding influences for team redesign and that current policies, procedures and standards are respected.

Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Provides leadership in achieving organizational and departmental goals through planning, organizing, implementing and monitoring process in areas of responsibility, including department KPI’s and other pertinent metrics
  • Investigates budget variance and initiates corrective actions when necessary
  • Keep apprised of leading practices for implementation within UPH
  • Provides direct supervision and leadership to staff to ensure effective, efficient operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality in a vastly changing health care environment
  • Presents data, strategies, and progress towards goals in various governance management forums
  • Ensures stakeholders have regular updates on metric progress

Leadership:

  • Conducts annual performance appraisals for assigned team members
  • Supervises team by motivating, mentoring, coaching and providing guidance to team to deliver high-quality, patient focused, experience-focused, and cost-effective services
  • Facilitates the ongoing learning, well-being, professional satisfaction and development of staff through training, work assignments, increased responsibility, and mentoring
  • Ensures departmental policies and procedures and job descriptions are current

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelors in Nursing
  • Preferred: Masters in Nursing, or other Heathcare related field or MBA

Experience: 

  • 3 years of leadership experience in critical care hospital setting
  • 3 years Transfer Center experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state which you practice and/or hold an active Compact/Multi-State RN license.
  • BLS (within 180 days of hire)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of software applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Epic, etc)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to communicate and collaborate with all members of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and manage multiple projects independently
  • Knowledge of process improvement and/or project management tools and resources
  • Advanced data management, statistical analysis, and presentation skills
