The Emergency Department Unit Clerk is the communications coordinator and is responsible for clerical work on the unit. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, family-centered care and a high level of satisfaction from team members, patients and families through excellent customer service.

• Utilizes current technology and electronic medical record to complete duties efficiently.
• Utilizes electronic medical record to facilitate patient flow in the department.
• Promotes family-centered care appropriate to age of patients served in the emergency department.
• Coordinates and prioritizes the dissemination of information.
• Manages clerical supplies, i.e., ordering, obtaining, transporting, storing, filing, etc.
• Adheres to unit specific employee accountabilities.
• Is flexible with assignments and work load, and maintains personal performance standards and skills.
• Utilizes cost effective measures consistent with the needs of the users, established standards and the hospital’s budgetary guidelines.
• Exercises and promotes effective communication in a multidisciplinary team approach.
• Serves as preceptor and mentors new Unit Clerk staff as a positive role model.
• Willing to cross-train to associated area on the unit and takes responsibility to maintain own competencies.
• Acts in accordance with DNV Primary Stroke Center guidelines and educational requirements therein.
• Acts in accordance with the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care guidelines and educational requirements therein related to Heart Failure Accreditation and Chest Pain Center Accreditation
• Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Previous clerical experience. Able to type accurately. Experienced in Microsoft Office application software. Previous medical experience and Epic EMR experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills.
