Organize and directs the daily activities of the laboratory. Responsible for Medical Lab Technician orientation as well as semi-annual and annual competencies. Conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, collecting, analyzing and interpreting lab results. Working team member that may validate and coordinate the work of others to ensure quality and accurate patient results. Work with the team to suggest improvements to process and is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has thorough knowledge of the team’s processes.

Clinical Excellence
· Ensures laboratory compliance with regulatory agencies
· Monitors testing and quality control in lab spaces within the hospital and associated departments
· Maintains records of competency and training for all staff performing laboratory testing in the hospital and associated departments
· Responsible for high-complexity testing performed by testing personnel.
· With guidance and direction from the Medical Laboratory Director and Manager, assesses and plans for section needs and makes appropriate purchase recommendations.
· Coordinates daily activities of the specified area
· Provides guidance and direction to staff to achieve compliance with organizational and unit policies and standards.
· Documents according to Unit Standards consistent with documentation guidelines.
· Communicates with other members of the health care team to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
· Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
· Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, Performance Improvement activities, Standards development and review, Hospital/Unit committees and other related activities.
· Attends team leader / supervisory meetings as scheduled.
· Assists with managerial activities of the unit related to performance evaluations, staffing, management of productivity and employee counseling. · Exhibits the knowledge and skill and acts as a preceptor with all unit procedures.
· Monitors supply inventory and cost containment activities.
· Maintains a basic understanding of all clinical processes in the Lab.
· Maintains appropriate laboratory records
· Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for neonates, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics
· Responsible for quality control procedures and instrument checks.
· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Education:
Associate of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technician accredited program required.
Bachelor degree in chemical, physical, biological or degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology degree from an accredited institution preferred.
Experience:
2 years of experience in Medical Laboratory Technology required
License(s)/Certification(s):
Board of Certification in an approved laboratory certification program such as American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to delegate wisely, exercise good judgment, maintain good interpersonal relationships, adapt to change, evaluate critically and think creatively and implement change in a positive manner. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide and supervise services appropriate to infant, pediatric, young/middle/mature adult patients. Must demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills. Must be able
to work independently. Ability to write reports, procedures, protocols, etc. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the patient, their family, physicians and other health care professionals with understanding and tact. Completion of unit and hospital orientation and unit specific competency testing. Possesses integrity, initiative and flexibility.
