Overview

EMS Supervisor

Full-Time; 12hr shifts Primarily, occasional 24hr Shift.

 

Responsible for supervising the daily activities of the unit utilizing quality and cost-effective patient care principles to including operations, staffing levels and employee relations. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional emergency medicine knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while maintaining a practice environment that reflects the UnityPoint Health-FOCUS values in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health regulations.

  • Collaborates with the Manager to complete patient and employee rounding to meet standards.
  • Assists Manager with performance improvement action plans and implementation of plans, monitoring of supplies/distribution and chart audits. Completes appropriate reports as delegated by Manager.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate prehospital medical care.
  • Adapts and adjusts the patient’s care plan according to the patient’s needs in the prehospital setting.
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree (or 60 Hours of Post High School Credit)
  • Successful completion of EMT training from an approved training course.
  • Three years of EMS experience
  • One year of previous supervisory experience.
  • Current certification at EMT level is required.
  • BLS & CPI certification (immediate upon hire)
  • Valid Iowa driver’s license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below).
  • Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years. No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing, or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.
  • Must be able to work a 24-hour shift when warranted.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Successful completion of paramedic training from an approved training course.
  • Three years of paramedic experience.
  • Current Paramedic certification.
  • Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement
  • PALS, ACLS, and NRP certification.
